Loretta suffered a stroke in 2017 and broke her hip the following year. But she kept recording, writing and reminding people that the coal miner’s daughter was still here. On April 14, 2022, Loretta turned 90. She died peacefully in her sleep at her Hurricane Mills ranch on October 4, surrounded by the home and family she had spent a lifetime building. Only 173 days of her 91st year had passed. She entered the world in a Kentucky cabin with almost nothing.
